Food 365 | Day 35: Sweet Bites from Starbucks

February 4, 2013

I usually try my best to ignore sweets at Starbucks during my coffee runs.  Just looking at the calorie count on the lemon pound cake will make you think twice about taking a bite.  But today, my eyes couldn’t help but land on two little tubes of sweets right by the counter – caramel brulee and chocolate peanut pretzel.  The caramel brulee had a nice caramelized sweetness with a hint of coffee while the chocolate peanut pretzel bites had a wonderful crunch surrounded by dark chocolate.  Both were perfect with my coffee and because they are so small, I feel a little less guilty indulging in them.

Food 365 | Day 34: French Toast Bagels at Bricktown

February 4, 2013

Have you ever had a french toast bagel?  MD introduced me to this wonderful breakfast concoction only found at Bricktown Bagels in LIC.  The eggy bagel has a soft interior with a sugary caramelized exterior that crunches delightfully with each bite.  While the french toast bagel toasted with peanut butter and jelly is MD’s regular order, I enjoy it only on special occasions or whenever I crave something sweet like this past Sunday.  Toasted with the raisin cinnamon cream cheese, this was delicious even though it didn’t make for the best picture.

Food 365 | Day 33: Mushroom Toast at Tipsy Parson

February 2, 2013

The mushroom toast at Tipsy Parson is a dishes that I can never become tired of, or at least not tired of yet.  A pile of tender scrambled eggs with sauteed wild mushroom perches on top of a thick piece of potato toast and a layer of creamy herbed ricotta.  That with a cup of coffee, I become another happy bruncher in the back room of TIpsy Parson.

Food 365 | Day 32: Home at Last

February 2, 2013

Home at last!  Too tired to cook and too cold to venture out, I ordered in – Taboonette’s kebab rice platter.  Three flavorful kebabs made with lamb and beef were served over yellow rice and a tomato cucumber salad.  Pretty wholesome for delivery and of course I made sure to add some of their honey pistachio cookies to the order.

Food 365 | Day 31: Hotel Mini Bar

February 1, 2013

Hotel mini bars are getting so much fancier these days.  This one has a weight sensor that charges you when an item has been moved for more than 20 seconds.  With so much food at the conference, there’s  really no need to snack on these but the colorful snacks in their clear cube packages are certainly tempting…

Food 365 | Day 30: Lunch on the Lawn

January 31, 2013

Today was the first day I had a hard time with the food 365 project.  In fact, this whole week has been a little challenging as I hop from conference to conference in Florida for work.  A little snap shot of a piece of coconut bread pudding from a lunch on the lawn.  It was just the kind of weather perfect for lunching outside, bright and sunny with an ocean breeze every once in a while to cool you off.

Food 365 | Day 29: Chocolates by the Ocean

January 30, 2013

It’s always nice to find a little bit of something sweet waiting for you after a long day.  Since I wasn’t hungry anymore after a big dinner yesterday, I saved these chocolates, a piece of caramel and a piece of raspberry, for today – a much longer day than yesterday.  They were a fantastic treat, especially when enjoyed with an ocean front view and the ocean breeze.

Food 365 | Day 28: In Honor of National Blueberry Pancake Day

January 28, 2013

Did you know that today was National Blueberry Pancake Day?  We certainly did not but coincidentally, that was exactly what JZ ordered for breakfast.  Even though I was pretty content with a cup of French press and bacon, I did have a big bite of the pancakes.  So I think we can conclude that National Blueberry Pancake Day was properly celebrated.

Food 365 | Day 27: Chocolate Covered Sea Shell Sandies

January 27, 2013

How appropriate to have everything be seafaring themed at a hotel by the beach in Florida.  Even the pepper and salt shakers are in the shape of starfish.  I loved finding these sea shell shaped chocolate covered sandies in the room when I arrived.  Perfect to satisfy an after dinner sweet craving.

Food 365 | Day 26: Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup at Sage General

January 27, 2013

I never get grilled cheese and tomato soup at restaurants and I have absolutely no idea why.  It’s kind of the perfect meal for the winter. At Sage General Store, a little bit of bacon to the grilled cheese and a sprinkle of goat cheese to the tomato soup just make them that much more special.
