Morning Breakfast at Morandi

July 29, 2012

I really indulge in those moments when I find myself one of the few patrons at a normally crowded restaurant.  Surrounded by empty tables, it seems as if we have the restaurant all to ourselves.  The food comes out a little bit faster and staff seems a little less harried.  Morandi on a Friday morning was just that for us.  A little breeze on a sunny summer morning made perfect for setting to settle into a seat on the sidewalk under Morandi’s red awning.

A little Bruschetta con ricotta for that something sweet.  Two pieces of thick country bread were slathered with creamy ricotta with a tiny bowl of poached fruit.

Carefully placing the fruit, apricot that day, we drizzled a little bit of honey along with the sweet syrup from the fruit on top.  Just sweet enough to make this indulgent but not too much to make it seem like dessert, all this was missing was a sprinkle of toasted pistachio or pine nuts for a crunch.

We were both on the same page that morning so two orders of Uova in camicia please with a side of bacon.

Two perfectly poached eggs sat atop of a bowl of peas, artichoke hearts and fava beans with hints of mint.  This, along with the bruschetta con ricotta, made for a filling and relaxing start to the day.  Off we go to run errands and such!
